My career transition through coaching – a client’s case study

Background

After several years of working flat out, I found myself feeling burnt out. Following a long term, temporary contract with the NHS which ended after COVID despite my successful delivery of the role’s expectations, I transitioned directly into a demanding consultancy position as a Senior Technical Project Manager. The organisations I was assigned to were focused on bottom-line results, and the long hours in high-pressure environments took their toll. I was working hard but didn’t feel fulfilled, and I became lost in my career.

The Coaching Journey

When I started working with Laura, I was overwhelmed by stress and frustration. I was running in circles, pushing myself harder but not getting anywhere. Through deeper, reflective questions, Laura helped me separate the noise and gain clarity. She guided me to see what I could control and what I couldn’t, helping me refocus on the areas that mattered most. One of the biggest breakthroughs for me was realising what I could change and what was beyond my control. This helped me stop running in circles and focus my energy on things I could actually influence.

Key Realisations and Change

Through the coaching process, I adopted several new behaviours. I learned to stop pushing harder when I was feeling overwhelmed, and instead ask for help. And if that help wasn’t given, I learned to step back and reassess whether I was in the right role. It gave me the confidence to reframe my career, realign it with my values, and take ownership of my future.

Outcomes

Thanks to the coaching, I was able to clarify what I had to offer, and confidently apply for a job that truly aligned with my values. This led me to secure a role that is fulfilling and in line with my long-term goals, allowing me to feel both confident and satisfied in my career once again.

I was thrilled to be able to support ‘TJ’ on her career transition. It was really fulfilling to watch her build on her confidence and get that clarity she so needed. And I’m delighed ‘TJ’ is not my only client who has found career fulfilllment.
