my story
From Sales to Career Coach
To get the most out of coaching you need to know, like and trust your coach.
You need to believe that they can create a psychologically safe space for you, and be someone who can press you and challenge you in a way that works for you.
So let me give you a flavour of who I am and my journey and see if that resonates.
I Fell Into Sales
At 18 years old during my first year at university I signed up to do door-to-door sales on a commission-only basis in the US.
That particular job was the making of me. I returned to it throughout my summers off from university.
But did I envisage a 25-year career in sales?
Absolutely not.
“At times my role has actively gone against my personal values which was physically and emotionally draining. “
Across Sectors
After university a recruitment consultancy offered me a job after I sent my CV into them as a candidate. And with no other ideas I took that up.
Fast forward to 2024 and my sales career has been across the recruitment, not-for-profit, legal and HR technology sectors.
On The Surface I Was Successful
I lived in Hong Kong for two years. I was promoted and managed bigger and bigger deals.
But I had more to give and was unfulfilled.
At times my role has actively gone against my personal values which was physically and emotionally draining.
Heart-Led Coaching
During my career I trained as a coach and coached internally for my employer.
I volunteered for suicide prevention charity The Samaritans.
As a passion project I started my career change podcast to inspire people to make big career shifts.
In early 2024 my husband suffered a life-shortening health diagnosis.
This meant that flexibility about how and where I work became critically important.
A-Maze-Ing Career Coach was borne.
I’m not just A-Maze-Ing Career Coach.
I row. I drum. I horse ride. I co-host a local community radio show. I borrow a dog. I love travel (my husband and I actually met in Senegal).
My friends are extremely important to me. I’m very close to my sister. My impostor syndrome has been rife. I’m not good at being on my own.
If I sound like someone you could get to know, like and trust then let’s chat.
