Why Coaching?

Professional Business Coaching

Professional business coaching has started to see a real boom over the past 10 years as people start to look for more fulfilment both within their roles and by changing roles.

Whilst we intrinsically know that people feel valued, enabled and empowered through coaching, do we know that it really helps people make the behaviour change they’re looking for and help them take the steps they need?

Behaviour Science Methodologies

One of the behaviour science methodologies I’ve come across that shows why coaching works is the COM-B model of behaviour change, developed in 2011 by Michie, van Stralen and West.

In its simplest form B (behaviour change) comes about when:

C – Capability – do you have the skills you need to make the change?

O – Opportunity – how can you practise these skills to embed the skills

M – Motivation – is there sufficient motivation for this behaviour to occur.

Coaching supports all of these. Your coach is someone who will help you identify the capability you need and where you might access it. Your coach can help you uncover opportunities for practising this, unlocking new ways of looking at the same situations that might allow you to flex those new muscles. And your coach is going to hold you accountable – they are going to ask you in each session how you’ve progressed the actions you agreed to in your previous conversation.

Now you know the value of coaching and the value of a good coach, see which of the ways I work with my clients most resonate with you.
